We did out LAST outdoor show of the season on the arrival of the FIRST winter storm of the season. W knew we were in trouble when the sleet turned to snow as we approached the I-25. We followed a big rig over Monument Hill, in deep blowing snow, in the predawn hours on Saturday. If that truck drove into a ditch, we were going with him because you couldn’t see the lines on the road. He deserves one big hug from us because he got us through. Once we got to about Littleton the snow turned to rain. When we arrived in Westminster to hot coffee and warm hospitality. The city officials and the members of the South Westminster Arts Group were absolutely wonderful people. We had so much fun with them! After being outside for a few hours Erica and I resorted to dancing to the band that was playing to stay warm. Even though the weather was miserable, we had so much fun! We laughed a lot and made some great friends. I’ll definitely be back for their show in June!

We believe in giving back to our community by supporting charitable organizations that are making a difference in the world. Every month we are donating all of the profits from a specific design to a designated non-profit organization that is working hard to make the world a better place.

I have had very close friends and family who have battled various types of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other physical ailments. I have been with them as they have fought for their lives. The pain and suffering these diseases cause to both the victims of these diseases and their loved ones is often unbearable.

A few months ago I attended a funeral, where I listened to the wails of a mother who lost her son, who was barely an adult, to diabetes. It was a horror that will stay with me forever. In November, National Diabetes Awareness Month, we will donate the profits from a design to the American Diabetes Association in Brandon’s honor. I have another friend whose very young son was diagnosed with diabetes as an infant. I never want to get another text from a hospital pediatric ward while her young son is fighting for his life. Please help make a difference to these families and countless others just like them.

If Front Range Studio can make any difference, no matter how small, then we are obliged to try. We are realistic, we have to keep the lights on, and we are honestly hoping to make some money on the venture. Personally, I want to provide the best education I can for my children, BUT, if I can create jobs within my community, promote manufacturing within the United States, and build a company that gives to charities that are making a difference in the world, then that’s what I am going to do!

Next month, February, is American Heart Month. I am working on a design in the shape of a heart and all profits are going to be donated to the American Heart Association. I implore all of you assist us in this cause and maybe we can reduce the amount of suffering in our world around us.

As always, warmest regards,

Laurie

I can write volumes on the subject. I find inspiration in all sorts of things. Nature is a HUGE inspiration for me. I love being outdoors. I have a particular fascination for ice in all forms. Below is an icicle that formed on the frozen Tarryall Waterfall. Two of my jewelry pieces are named after glaciers: Baltoro is a glacier in remote Pakistan near the Himalayas and Moreno is named after the Perito Moreno Glacier in the Patagonian region of Argentina.

I draw some things out on paper but most of the time I work in my graphic design software in the computer. If I don’t get them down fast enough some ideas get lost forever. Many designs are like puzzles that have a solution. I sometimes work all of it in my head before I transfer it to a a more formal format. Sometimes when I appear like I am doing absolutely nothing, I am actually doing my best work. Even if I can get a rough image worked out, draw out a rough image, then I can go back to it in the future and clean it up.

I believe creativity can be from both sides of the production fence. I personally am a creator most of the time but I believe there is possibly more weight on the appreciation side. I don’t play an instrument but I would literally shrivel up and become a pile of dust without music in my life. I hope to spark the creative nerve in people and is where I find my true fulfillment.
