The Creative Process

I can write volumes on the subject. I find inspiration in all sorts of things. Nature is a HUGE inspiration for me. I love being outdoors. I have a particular fascination for ice in all forms. Below is an icicle that formed on the frozen Tarryall Waterfall. Two of my jewelry pieces are named after glaciers: Baltoro is a glacier in remote Pakistan near the Himalayas and Moreno is named after the Perito Moreno Glacier in the Patagonian region of Argentina.

I draw some things out on paper but most of the time I work in my graphic design software in the computer. If I don’t get them down fast enough some ideas get lost forever. Many designs are like puzzles that have a solution. I sometimes work all of it in my head before I transfer it to a a more formal format. Sometimes when I appear like I am doing absolutely nothing, I am actually doing my best work. Even if I can get a rough image worked out, draw out a rough image, then I can go back to it in the future and clean it up.

I believe creativity can be from both sides of the production fence. I personally am a creator most of the time but I believe there is possibly more weight on the appreciation side. I don’t play an instrument but I would literally shrivel up and become a pile of dust without music in my life. I hope to spark the creative nerve in people and is where I find my true fulfillment.
